RE CURRICULUM
Step into RE at Holy Family...
“Train up a child in the way that he should go; when he is old he will not depart from it.”
–Proverbs 22:6
What does RE look like at Holy Family...
At Holy Family, we warmly invite each child to embark on a personal and meaningful journey with Christ. Our commitment lies in nurturing the individual faith of every child, helping them to forge a deeper connection with God and to embrace the unique gifts and talents He has bestowed upon them. We honour and celebrate each child’s natural capacity for wonder, awe, reverence, and spirituality.
Our foundation for religious teaching is rooted in the ‘Come and See’ Religious Education programme, which is specifically designed for Early Years and Key Stages 1 and 2, as endorsed by the Salford Diocese. We pride ourselves on being an inclusive school, championing the British value of mutual respect for diverse faiths. Each year, our students explore various religions, including Judaism, Buddhism, Islam, Sikhism, and Hinduism.
From Early Years to Year 6, each class engages with the teachings of the Catholic Church while following the Liturgical Calendar. The topics we cover align with the Church’s calendar, yet the depth of exploration is tailored to the children’s age. For instance, during Lent, all children learn about the death and resurrection of Christ. However, while our Early Years pupils reflect on the significance of growth and new life, Key Stage 1 students contemplate change and new opportunities, and Key Stage 2 children delve into themes of self-discipline, sacrifice, death, and rebirth.
We enrich our curriculum through various engaging activities, such as:
- Involvement in the preparation and presentation of Masses, both in church and at school
- Weekly collective worship focused on specific themes within the classroom
- Close collaboration between the parish and the school
- Active participation in various community life aspects within the parish
- Encouraging children to put their faith into action and share the love of Christ
At Holy Family, we also embrace Catholic Social Teaching through our Caritas in Action programme. This flexible scheme focuses on seven key areas and offers extensive age-appropriate opportunities for our children to explore our mission as Catholics in today’s world. Additionally, it supports the Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) dimensions of our curriculum while aligning with the PSHE framework.
