SACRAMENTAL PROGRAMME

Sacramental Programme

As part of the Sacramental Programme at Holy Family, the children in Year 3 will be given the oportunity to prepare to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

The ‘Heart speaks to Heart programme’ will guide and prepare your child, working together at home and within the parish to embark on a special journey towards making First Holy Communion.

Throughout the year, the children take part in dedicated lessons that help them understand the meaning and importance of each sacrament. They learn about God’s love, forgiveness, and the significance of the Eucharist through prayer, scripture, and discussion.

The programme also includes family involvement and support from the parish community, with children attending special Masses and participating in key liturgical celebrations.

This journey helps deepen their faith and encourages them to live as active members of the Church.

Reconciliation is the Church’s special way of saying sorry to God and receiving His love back.

We quietly think about times we haven’t been loving to God or others—when we were unkind or didn’t follow God's plan.

The children take it in turns to talk to Father Kevin (who is acting in Jesus’ place) and say, “Bless me, Father, for I have sinned,” and then we tell him how we want to grow and be better.

Then Father Kevin says special words of absolution, and just like magic, our sins are forgiven. We feel peace inside—like a fresh start—knowing God still loves us deeply.

Children preparing for their First Holy Communion learn about how much Jesus loves them and how special it is to receive Him in the Eucharist.

They go to Sunday Mass with their families, listen carefully, and gently explore the parts of the Mass where Jesus shared bread and wine as His Body and Blood.

They rehearse how to receive Communion—with folded hands and  little bow of reverence.

Through friendly lessons, family prayer, and gentle guidance from catechists, children grow ready to meet Jesus in the Eucharist with joy and confidence.

First Holy Communion is a very special moment in a Catholic child’s life—it’s the first time they receive the Eucharist.

It marks a beautiful step in their spiritual journey—joining fully in the life of the Church and feeling close to Jesus in a sacred way.

    Celebration of The Word

The Year 3 children came into school wearing their First Holy Communion outfits. They shared their special experiences with their classmates—talking about how it felt to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and why that moment was so important. With their peers listening in the prayer space, they helped everyone feel part of their joyful journey by reflecting on what they learned and how they felt. This child-led time was a beautiful way to help the whole school community grow closer to God together.
